Health Care

Affordable and accessible health care is a keystone in life and one that every American deserves. I have worked in the Missouri legislature to bring health care to the formerly uninsured and I will continue to do so in Congress. I will protect Medicaid and Medicare from harmful and disruptive cuts that leave our must vulnerable out in the cold. Health care is my top priority.

Portability: Health Insurance should travel with the individual. Too many times parents of children that have pre-existing conditions like juvenile diabetes have to turn down better job opportunities because their children couldn’t get coverage under another plan.

Access: Everyone who gets sick should be able to see a doctor especially a child. Millions of Americans are living without health insurance because they are self employed or work for a small business that can’t afford to provide them insurance. In Congress I would work for a system where insurance was available to all.

Affordability: We spend 50% more per patient on health care than any other country in the world. By moving to electronic medical records, we would save millions off the cost of health care and provide it more efficiently. We must also provide strong regulation to eliminate the fraud and abuse that drives up the cost for everyone. By providing access to prevention care like check-ups, we can save a tremendous amount of money.

Children’s Care: As a member of Congress, I will call for an expansion of children’s health care. This program allows parents with children to buy-in to the program with sliding scale premium assistance. Our children need to be taken care of and I will work to keep them healthy and safe.
